Gastric Bypass Surgery in Missouri

Guest Blog By: Roger T.

Being overweight can be a real burden and it may be too difficult to lose weight on your own. That’s when surgical treatments for weight loss can step in and help you shed unwanted pounds. If you are considering gastric bypass surgery in Missouri, check with your doctor first to see if you're a good candidate for this type of treatment and then ask for a referral about where to go for the procedure.

Candidates for this type of weight loss surgery are usually 100 pounds or more overweight. Follow up with your local surgical weight loss clinic to see if you are a candidate for bariatric surgery. It’s now known that people who are 30% or more overweight get sick more often. Not only that, but they are more likely to develop illnesses and conditions like diabetes and heart disease, or certain cancers. Some health insurance companies now include these weight loss surgeries in their health insurance plans.

You and your doctor will have to decide which type of procedure would be best for you to have. There are generally three different procedures used which include: adjustable gastric banding, roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy. This type of surgery brings with it some physical and mental challenges, so be sure to discuss it thoroughly with your doctor. Also, check with the surgical weight loss clinic to see if they have any support services for you or your family.
